Health and safety is similar to the Environment in that it is a major business topic where organizations know they have very specific duties, but are also aware that they may not be meeting all of these duties at present.
This is generally through no lack of effort on their part, but is more likely to be through simply not having the time, or technical knowledge.
We can provide a wide range of support to ensure that your health and safety system is not only compliant, but is also improving with time.
Health and Safety Review
By carrying out a health and safety review we can help you to identify where you might have any specific gaps, together with an effective plan for correcting these over time.
Health and Safety Policy
A Health and Safety Policy is a legal requirement for all but the smallest organizations and is much more than simply a bland statement, making general promises. It needs to set out much more, to include the roles and responsibilities of each person involved in the process (known as the Organisation) and also the way that the H&S is managed (known as the Arrangements).
We can help to prepare a workable Policy with you, to include making sure that it is implemented effectively and importantly, will continue to be implemented year on year.
If you already have a Policy, we can help you to make sure that it is working for you and delivering a safer working environment for all concerned.
Risk Assessments
These are a key part of any health and safety system and are probably the one aspect that most people have heard about.
Although many small companies think that they do not need to do risk assessments, they are a legal requirement and are mentioned in a number of different regulations. They are also good practice and provide you with an opportunity to think carefully about your business activities, putting in place sensible controls to minimize any risks.
We can either help you to put together suitable and sufficient risk assessments, or carry out a review of what you have in place.
One of the most important aspects for your risk assessments is that they should not simply sit in a file on a shelf and collect the proverbial dust. They need to be living documents that are thumbed and used on site, with staff being made aware of their contents.
We can help you to design a system that keeps your risk assessments fresh and also ensures that staff are made aware of their content and understand how it affects them and their work.
If you are interested in any of these qualifications for you or your staff and want to know more, then please contact the Centre.
